This summer my abundant vegetable has to be my noodle beans aka long beans. Everyday I pick about a dozen of them. When I miss a day I end up with some being a bit too mature. I have a variety of noodle - long beans. Two varieties I got from Bakercreek - red noodle beans and Thai soldier - and one I bought from Home Depot - Yard long bean.
The red noodle beans were introduced to me by Jessica from Roots and Refuge. She recommended it as she said it produces abundantly. Thai soldier long beans I bought because initially it was listed as a bush variety and I had space in my garden last year for a bush variety bean. However, after a month I noticed it started vining next to my tomatoes and peppers. It was uncontrollable about 2 months and grew every where. I had 5 plants last year. This year I planted about 12 and 8-10 are alive, of which 8 are bearing noodle beans. Thai soldier beans are not as long as noodle beans but not as short as green beans. It’s super delicious. Yesterday I picked this:
I had a friend over and I asked him if he wanted but he declined lol because three days prior he visited us and I picked the same amount and gave him in addition he took home a basket of greens (kale, Swiss chard and Malabar spinach).
Well today this is our harvest
As you can see another handful of noodle beans and a dried one too lol.
The melon you see that is a mystery for us. There dragon eggs cucumber and regular market more cucumbers. A couple okras and peppers.
I will be making some pickles soon. I’ll share my recipe with you when I do!
Thanks for reading!
